Who are our patients and clients?
The history of our hospital is a long one, with origins in 1978 as a mixed animal practice (Aardvarks to Zebras, sort of). As our community has changed over the years, so have we. Currently, we see dogs, cats, birds, and small mammals and exotic pets (rabbits, ferrets, rats, turtles/tortoises, lizards, guinea pigs, chinchillas, chickens, etc, etc). We see many cat breeds, from hairless to (almost) legless Munchkins, and everything in between. Although there is no such thing as a breed “specialist”, we see almost every breed of dog under the sun, from bulldogs to greyhounds, teacups to giants, and mixed breeds to designer dogs. The most distant client we have lived in Brazil and came home with her pets just to see us, twice a year. Our clients are pilots, teachers, inventors, doctors (the human kind), authors, students, veterans, attorneys and every other profession you can imagine. Bring your story, because when you visit us, YOU are the only client we are focused on, and your pet is like OURS for a short while!
Boarding
We want your pet to be our Guest! Dickinson Animal Hospital & Pet Wellness Center offers a selection of pet boarding options for the convenience of our clients and fun for our pet guests .Dog and cat areas are in completely different areas of the facility, and even on different air control systems to maximize their enjoyment while staying with us. Our kennel nurses are highly trained and experienced pet care professionals who LOVE caring for our guests! They are dedicated to doing everything possible to make sure your pet stays healthy and safe, and you can rest easy knowing that a staff veterinarian is readily available should your pet require medical attention while visiting with us.
Complete Pharmacy
For the convenience of our patients, we maintain a fully stocked pharmacy with hundreds of prescription drugs and dosages, over the counter products, and prescription diets for patients with specific dietary needs. We also utilize a specialty pharmacy that can compound many drugs into different forms and dosages as needed. Unlike online pharmacies, all of our products come directly from authorized and legitimate distributors and manufacturers, so we know the product has not been diverted from overseas, counterfeited, relabeled, or mishandled during shipping or storage at any point from manufacturer to the patient. We also only prescribe medications that have been approved for use in pets when available, instead of human generics that don’t always work as expected in pets. You can trust that our doctors will not prescribe nor dispense medication combinations that may be harmful to your pet.
Hydrosurge Bathing
What pet wouldn’t love the massaging motion of the HydroSurge Pet Bathing System? It’s always difficult to get shampoo and water down to the skin, especially in thick coated pets or those with undercoats. This unique system addresses this by producing a vigorous, penetrating, combing action spray of shampoo and water through a specially designed hand held sprayer. The bathing solution easily penetrates through the hair and down to the skin to flush away dirt, debris, loose hair, dead skin and/or dander for the healthiest coat possible.
Microchipping
Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the most widely used microchip product, which increases the chance of a safe recovery should you become separated from your pet. Microchip placement is easy, the chips last a lifetime and we register your pet for you. We routinely scan lost pets and strays brought to our facility for the presence of a microchip; if one is found, reuniting the pet with its owner is easy and quick. No one wants to endure the helpless feeling of having a lost pet, and microchips can help add peace of mind.
Pet Insurance
With the growing capabilities of veterinary care for your pet, insurance is a very good investment. We are not affiliated with any pet insurance company directly, but have information on the leading companies that provide this service. Over the last few years, we have seen an increasing number of clients who use pet insurance, and in many cases this has allowed the client to provide care for their pet that, without insurance, may not have been feasible.
